Coined gives you three word-origin stories every day, each verified against real etymological sources — the source is printed right on the card. Answers to the most common questions below.

When do new words arrive?

Three new word stories unlock each day at midnight, local time. Flip each card to reveal where the word really came from.

Where do the etymologies come from?

Every story in Coined is checked against established etymological references — sources like the Online Etymology Dictionary and Merriam-Webster — and the source we verified is shown on every card. No folk etymologies stated as fact, no invented tales. New words are added monthly, verified the same way.

What is the Curator Unlock?

A one-time purchase — no subscription, no ads, ever. Curators pick their favorite categories (Food & Drink, Animals, Science & Space, and nine more), and the daily three becomes two words from your favorites plus one wildcard, so it stays personal but still surprising.

Does Coined need an internet connection?

No. The full word catalogue is bundled with the app. Daily words, your saved collection, and the library all work entirely offline.

How do streaks work — and what if I miss a day?

Open Coined on consecutive days to grow your streak. Life happens: your streak automatically survives one missed day per week, no purchase required.

Streaks are stored on your device (and in your own iCloud backup). If you delete the app without a backup, a streak can't be recovered — but your curiosity carries over just fine.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Coined → Settings → "Restore purchase," signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the Curator Unlock.
